Last year's winner, James Milllichamp (pictured), said:
"Winning last year meant so much to me to have been selected for such an amazing opportunity. Shrewsbury has such a vibrant art scene and to have been chosen from such an incredible array of artists is really special.
To take the central stage in the prestigious Soden Collection is truly an honour - to have had my work featured amongst such fantastic pieces was really exciting. I love to visit The Soden Collection and have such admiration for the wonderful work on show. I would say this was a genuine career highlight. When we first moved to Shrewsbury we lived in Belle Vue and to have gone from holding an open studio as part of the festival, to exhibiting in The Soden Collection, really is something.
Competitions like this one provide the impetus to plan and develop ideas, and give artists a focus for the next stage of their projects: There is such a great community here and loads of events taking place. I would like to extend a huge thank you to My Shrewsbury Magazine, The Soden Collection and of course the Belle Vue Arts Festival team for this wonderful opportunity. It really means so much, thank you!!"
And finally, a word from our two lovely sponsors:
When we asked Jonathan Soden why supporting local artists was important to him, he said:
“I understand first-hand how art and the ability to create can be a therapy to us humans. It can either ease the mind or bring out emotion to help us deal with life or be a wonderful addition to our soul, so for me to help support this in a little way is very important, encouraging creativity is important to our local community.”
And when we asked Katy Rink why she was keen to support the competition again this year, Katy said:
“I am proud to be able to offer My Shrewsbury magazine as a platform to help support artists in Shrewsbury - it's the best part of my job! I love getting to know creative people in our community and to help showcase their work, so it's a natural partnership for us to be working with the Belle Vue Arts Festival. I can't wait to see the entries come in!"
And on behalf of us all at the Belle Vue Arts Festival, we would like to say a HUGE thank you to both Jonathan-Lee Soden and Katy Rink for their continued generous support.
